GARETH COOKE
Gareth began had a love of music from a very young age. His family owned pubs and venues so had access to some great early soul and jazz funk DJ’s. Gareth was lucky enough to witness the pioneers of the dance scene like Robbie Vincent, Al Matthews and perhaps his biggest influence Jeff Young.
Once he was old enough he travelled to as many venues and weekenders as possible. Being a regular at Southport, The Belvedere, Zero 6. Loving soulful vocal standards it was an easy transition to early vocal house music.
An era defining trip to Ibiza Gareth dived into the Balearic scene and started to broaden his dance tastes. Loving the sounds and feel of the white isle and seeking out new and eclectic dance music. Detroit, Berlin, New York, Chicago, Rome all releasing new sounds that inspired Gareth took a residency at Culture Shock in Romford in the early 90’s which then lead to him joining the Ministry of Sound London.
His role went from promoter, to resident for the infamous Rulin ” night Saturdays which ran for 11 years and is still regarded as the Sound of Ministry Saturdays.
At this time Gareth started making music under the name UNO CLIO. With a few house hits he really made a name remixing some of the biggest names in music and his heroes, including Luther Vandross, Michael Jackson, Mary J Blige, and Jodeci.
Gareth stayed with the Ministry for almost 22 years in different roles. Residencies abroad included , Italy, Ibiza, Brazil, Switzerland,Miami, Dubhai, Russia and Venezuela.
Building his love of electronic music and the ongoing residencies meant he was lucky enough to play alongside and be influenced by many DJ’s. His favourites being CJ Mackintosh, Claudio Coccoluto, Francois K, Masters at Work Mr C, Sven Vath Andrew Weatherall and Tony Humphries.
The Mi House Rulin show will definitely reflect many aspects of House music and will not follow the norm . Grown up house music!
